About the event
Yoga and mindfulness meditation are similar in that they both require concentration and focus. The ultimate goal of both of these practices is to feel peaceful, relaxed, in a state of self-awareness, and connected to the universe. There are proven health benefits as well, such as reducing stress. When you’re relaxed, you activate a part of the nervous system called the parasympathetic nervous system. This helps to lower your heart rate, blood pressure, and levels of stress hormones like cortisol. When you reduce stress, you decrease inflammation throughout your body, as well as anxiety. Yoga and meditation practice can also lead to improvements in sleep, chronic pain, mood, and resilience.
The evening includes:
- A gentle yoga flow (blocks are provided for support; options for all levels offered) to reap the benefits of movement for our bodies, minds, and souls.
- A guided meditation (yoga nidra) to nurture ourselves through deep rest and relaxation.
- Journaling and setting intentions with a warm herbal beverage.
The workshop takes place indoors in the Center for Rural History at the beautiful Schumacher Farm Park in Waunakee. Feel free to come early to wander the prairie trails and connect more with nature and the seasons. Participants should bring their own yoga mat (if you don't have one, reach out as there may be one for you to borrow), water bottle, socks (the floor can be cool), and any props (like a small pillow and/or blanket) to make yourself comfortable during the guided meditation.
